Online Therapy is when therapy takes place on a virtual platform. These platforms are secure virtual or online applications that allow you to communicate with your psychologist via video calling.
Since the onset of the current Covid-19 pandemic, online therapy has become an essential aspect of mental health. The limits that have been placed on face to face interactions and the requirements for social distancing and self-isolation, have created challenges for therapeutic processes. Online therapy takes the same role as in person sessions but allows you to see your therapist from the comfort of your home, office or your own private space.
When should you consider online therapy?
If you are unable to see your psychologist in person for a face to face session due to social distancing concerns, self-isolation or other matters that you wish to discuss with your psychologist prior to commencing online sessions.
What if you wish to start a therapeutic process online?
In person sessions are beneficial at the start of a therapeutic relationship and many psychologists may prefer seeing you in person for the first session before commencing with online sessions. It depends on the circumstances and the therapeutic process your psychologist has agreed to with you.
