The Holly Mauldin Alonzo New Beginnings Scholarship
Holly Mauldin Alonzo was a remarkable person. She triumphed through many hardships following a diagnosis of Neurofibromatosis Type II (NF2) at the age of 13. Although life was increasingly challenging, Holly successfully completed high school. Holly is a former Alumni of Piggott High School. She graduated in 2005. Following her passing, her graduating class awarded a scholarship in her name. The Holly Mauldin Alonzo New Beginnings Scholarship was created in 2019 as a lasting legacy to Holly's memory. By awarding a scholarship to future Clay County area high school graduates, her family hopes to help others as they take the next steps to follow their dreams.
Holly went on to have a family before her passing in 2017. She left behind a much loved son, spouse, and many family members. Through the challenges, Holly continues to be a source of inspiration to those who knew and loved her. She even wrote a book, "Never Giving Up Hope." She is an amazing example of perseverance, optimism, and hope in the face of adversity.
Holly's book is available to check out at the Piggott Public Library in Piggott, AR. Her book can also be found for purchase at:
