To GCC Staff and Parents
As some of you may already be aware, today we were informed that the Sacramento County Office of Education conferred with the Sacramento Department of Public Health and has announced that all schools in Sacramento County will open the 2020-21 school year in a full Distance Learning model.
The health and safety of our students and staff are and continue to be our primary concern. As such the GCC will be opening the 2020-21 school year in a Distance Learning model for all schools with possible consideration for limited in person support for students in particular need (e.g. special education).
Throughout this process we’ve sought to balance safety, the education of our students, and community need in designing the best and safest option for our students. We anticipate a time in the near future when we may once again provide in-person instruction to the greatest extent possible under existing health conditions and guidelines regarding social distancing, sanitation, and personal protective equipment.
We recognize the significant impact that school closures had on students, staff, and families in the 2019-20 school year, and we are working with our administrators to support all of our stakeholders as we transition to this new school year. Each of our schools and their respective staff will be working hard to provide increasing breadth of service, connection and excellence in the new school year. While this is not what we had foreseen or hoped for, we know that together we can ensure an incredible educational experience for our students.
Sincerely,
Cindy Petersen, Ed.D.
