Sailing Camp
Summer Sailing Camp 2020
Objectives :
1. To apply the basic sailing skills into a long distance sailing trip.
2. To enjoy the wholesome of joy in adventure and nature appreciation.
3. To experience camping activities in the natural environment and develop a sense of self-competent and self-efficacy in a supervised outdoor adventure camp.
Requirement : Holder of Optimist Sail 1 / Level 1 or above
Target : Upper primary to secondary school students
Activities : Sailing, star gazing and geological field studies
Camp fees : HK$3200 per head
Instructors :
- Dr. Simon Lo; PhD in Adventure Education from Lincoln University of New Zealand. Former Assistant Director, Institute of Human Performance, HKU and Programme Director of the Adventure Education Programme of HKU. He is a Sailing Instructor of the American Sailing Association and certified Outdoor Educator trained in the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) in Alaska USA. He has ample experience in leading groups in the outdoors for educational and personal development programmes.
- Mr. Gary Yuen; Senior Sailing Instructor of HKSSA, He has ample experience in leading Optimist sailing teams in Hong Kong Race Week , Hong Kong Optimist National Championship , Tai Mei Tuk Regatta, HHYC Regatta and ABC Regatta.

Remarks : A pre-sailing camp brief session will be arranged either through on-line video conferencing or face-to-face meeting at our centre.
Itinerary
Day 1
Morning Session
- Camp briefing at 9:00 am
- Basic sailing skills review, map reading and compass work
- Rigging the Optimist and 420 dinghies
- Lunch : home-made sandwiches and salad
Afternoon Session
- Sailing with map and compass bearing
Evening Session
- Dinner : BBQ
- Camping skills, camping on hard ground (the roof of our centre)
- Star gazing
- Snack
- Tidy up at 10:30 pm, sleep at 11:30 pm
Day 2
Morning Session
- 7:30 am - Wake up, Breakfast - Field cooking, self-prepared breakfast and packed lunch
- Packing - camping gear
- Tidying up the centre
- 10:30 am - Set-off for the camp site via several checkpoints including Sum Chung/Lai Chee Chong
- Lunch - on-board with packed lunch
Afternoon Session
- 4:00 pm - Arrive camp site, setting up tents and camp site
Evening Session
- 6:00 pm - Dinner, group field cooking
- 8:00 pm - Night walk and adventure activities
- 11:00 pm - Rest and sleep
Day 3
Morning Session
- 7:30 am - Wake up, Breakfast - Field cooking, hot food
- Packing and tidying up the camp site
- Geological field studies in Lai Chee Chong or Ma Shi Chau (depends on the tidal conditions)
- Lunch at the camp site/on-board with packed lunch, sandwiches and drinks
Afternoon Session
- Sailing back to the centre
- 3:30 pm - Arrival to the centre
- Clean and dry the camping and sailing gears
- 5:00 pm - Debriefing and prize presentation
- 6:00 pm - Home sweet home
