//海外的香港人未曾放棄過!今次北美30多個香港人組織合辦,體現兄弟爬山,各自努力的精神!
Dear community,
This year marks the 32nd anniversary of the 1989 pro-democracy movement in China and the Tiananmen Massacre. This is also the second year when all the memorial activities have been banned in Hong Kong and Macau. Taiwan becomes the only Sinophone country where people can mourn for the martyrs publicly and legally. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been trying its best to erase history. We must not let the authorities further silence our voices.
The fight against the authoritarian regime includes the struggle of memory against forgetting. As Hongkongers and supporters of democracy and human rights, we bear the responsibility to remember history. We stand with the Tiananmen martyrs and mothers.
This Friday (6/4), we will be holding a small-scale June 4th Memorial at 9 pm at MU UC Davis. We hope to create a place where we can grieve and reflect together.
Together, we will watch a short documentary at 9:15 pm, take a moment of silence afterward, and then take some time to reflect on how the memorial means to us.
We welcome anyone to join us for the whole process or stop by anytime between 9-11 pm.
When you come, please take your time to light a candle and take a moment of silence to mourn the martyrs in the 1989 Tiananmen Massacre. We will also prepare some related articles on the table. Everyone is welcome to check them out. The Memorial will be held silently.
*Please note that we cannot permit the use of real candles due to wildfire prevention and UC Davis regulations. Limited battery-powered candles will be provided. You are welcome to bring flowers and your own candle.
We encourage you to pm us if you plan to join us so that we can have a rough headcount. If you need a ride, please feel free to pm us.

HKers are not alone in their struggle against CCP. On Oct 1, 2020, Hong Kongers, South Mongolians, Tibetans, Taiwanese, Uyghurs, and Vietnamese gathered together in front of the SF Chinese Consulate to protest PRC's repressive policies. #GlobalDayofAction
Thank you for organizing and participating in the protest! Below are some of the organizations hosting and participating in the protest yesterday! Check out their pages for more photos!

The ASUCD Senate passed the resolution authored by the Muslim Student Association at UCD (MSA at UCD) to “divest from companies complicit in China’s mass detention, surveillance & repression of Uyghurs & in Condemnation of China”.
If Uyghurs cannot speak up for themselves under oppression. We shall speak for them.
On Dec 22, 2019, thousands of Hong Kong citizens, including some of our members, gathered at the Human Rights rally in solidarity with #Uyghurs. Although people soon were met with police brutality, it doesn’t stop #HongKongers from speaking against crackdowns on any people.
We are glad that we joined the meeting and speak for them. We thank the ASUCD Senate for passing this Bill because #Uyghurs need more support in the international community fighting for human rights.

Thanks, Filipinx in Liberal Arts and Humanities at UCD @filahatucd for inviting us to present the arts in #HongKong Protest at the event “America is on the Stage 2020”!
We introduced #LadyLibertyHK , #GlorytoHK (freedom anthem in HK) , #LennonWall & #HongKongWay (the anniversary of #balticway30) to audience. Arts in HK can be referred globally to fight for freedom. -
We also enjoy the fascinating dramas, songs & other arts performance at the event. We are glad to have the opportunity to appreciate the art performance!

Our member participated in the event “Picnic, Artwork & Outreach” at LakeMerritt hosted by Hong Kongers in San Francisco Bay Area & Runners for Hong Kong 香港人, 和你走 Runners for HK (community).
Participants talked to locals about #HongKong, #721yuenlongattack and #StrikeToSaveLives!
We joined the SaveUyghurs march organized by Muslim Student Association (MSA) at UCD (MSA at UCD). We call for more concerns about the situation in EastTurkestan, where millions of Uyghur Muslims are inhumanely detained in the concentration camps. HongKongers stand with #Uyghurs!
Thanks for joining our Hong Kong T-shirt giveaway event. All the shirts were given away today! Remember to wear it often!
The T-shirts were distributed by 洛杉磯香港論壇 Hong Kong Forum, Los Angeles. These were the same t-shirts given away outside NBA games to protest the NBA's compliance with China's censorship. Help support free speech! "Fight for freedom, stand with Hong Kong!"
Jan 25&27, 2020
During our tablings (11:30am-4pm), we gave out 揮春 fai chun while collecting signatures for #BeWater act & letters to companies regarding free speech.
Fai chun is traditionally used to celebrate Lunar New Year, but we added a Hong Kong twist- this time we wrote protest slogans.
Our #LunarNewYear wish is written on our fai chun-#FreeHongKong, Revolution of our times.
On Dec 8, 2019, we were invited to give a speech at the Human Rights Day Rally Hosted by Hong Kongers in SF in San Fransisco.
We handed over the Thank You Card to Congressman John Garamendi on Nov 25.
We also thank Mr. President for signing the bills! Thank you for supporting democracy in Hong Kong!
Thank you for joining our tabling - #SOSHK - Humanitarian & Environmental Crisis in Hong Kong.
We gathered more signatures than we expected!
We thank U.S. Congress for passing the bipartisan #HKHRDA! We’ll continue to fight for human rights and democracy in Hong Kong.

【US colleges Joint-statement On the Escalation of Tensions in Hong Kong and at PolyU】
As #PolyU is besieged by HK police, we present the US Academic Joint statement by 54 US campuses in We #StandWithHongKong rally in SF today.
We urge politicians around the world, especially those in the United States, to exert pressure on Hong Kong’s Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, and the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF), to call off violent crackdowns on pro-democracy protesters, and answer the remaining four demands put forth by the protesters.

On Nov 14, 2019, ASUCD Senate passed a resolution we authored. The resolution "condemns censorship and intimidation of student activists on the UC Davis campus."
Both Davis College Democrats and Davis College Republicans attended to show bi-partisan support, and ASUCD External Affairs Commission helped us introduce the bill. We would like to thank everyone who helped make this possible! So many groups have come together to support our Hong Kong activists.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our table to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall- as we have emphasized before, there are many parallels between East/West Germany and mainland China/Hong Kong.
The fall of the Berlin Wall gives us hope that division of people and suppression of human rights cannot last forever. We strive to work towards an open, democratic future for Hong Kong.
We mourned for the loss of our friend, Alex Chow, a Hong Kong protester & student at #HKUST, who passed away on Nov 7, 2019 from the fall after police clashed with protesters. We mourn for martyrs of democracy.
On the WinnieThePooh Wednesday at UC Davis. We protested against NBA and Blizzard censorship, and prohibiting political activist Joshua Wong in Hong Kong district council election.
Thank you to everyone that attended our rally today! We received a wide variety of support from many different individuals and groups on campus. We are glad we were able to express our message today and exercise our right to free speech. During the rally, we were able to get many more letters signed to Senator Harris and Senator Feinstein!
We went to Representative Garamendi's town hall on Monday, and he agreed to vote for all Hong Kong-supporting bills currently going through the House! We got to hand over all 373 of the letters to Garamendi in person.
This is significant, as the town hall marked the first time Garamendi publicly expressed his support of the bills. The Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act (HR 3289) was be voted on Tuesday, 10/15.
We thank Congressman Garamendi for supporting Hong Kong and speaking for democracy! However, the fight is far from over- keep checking this page for updates.
Collecting letters to Congress supporting the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, as well as the PROTECT Hong Kong Act.
Over 1,100 letters to Congress! (and counting!)
In the past week, Davis for Hong Kong has been collecting letters to Congress in support of the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, as well as the PROTECT Hong Kong Act. These letters will be sent to Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, and Rep. John Garamendi. We have also collected letters to U.S. Representatives outside of the Davis area! These letters are essential, as the House will be voting on the HK Human Rights and Democracy Act early next week.
So far, Harris has expressed approval regarding Hong Kong, but Feinstein and Garamendi have not. This is why these letters are essential!
