If you need a reference letter from me

Asking a professor for a reference letter could be an anxiety-producing experience —but I hope you never feel that way with me. I’m usually able to write strong letters for both undergraduate and graduate students of mine, especially if you:

1) met me frequently outside of class to discuss your plans for employment/grad school/etc.

2) worked in my research lab, RAs,  and/or

3) were my TAs and/or

4) at least took one class (e.g., PSY 3000, PSY 5000) with me.

If you don't fall into at least one of the above categories, I might have a difficult time writing a good letter and it might be a good idea to ask someone else for a reference. However, feel free to talk to me about it, and we can discuss your best option.

STEPS TO TAKE:

1) Contact me via email for reference letters. Once we have established that I am able to write a good letter for you, complete the following steps:

2) Provide information about the schools/companies, due dates, etc. in my google form (just click it):  Information collection form

3) Provide me with the following information,  a) if actual letters are required, please print and completely fill out and sign any accompanying forms and provide addressed and stamped envelopes. If you're on campus, simply drop them off in my campus mailbox. If you've moved out of town, simply send everything in one big envelope to my address (see my contact page);   b) if electronic submissions are accepted, make sure to send the link to my email address (khu@shsu.edu)

Important Note: Please address this question if relevant to your situation: Some gifted individuals demonstrate comparatively low achievement in scholastic records. In your opinion, is your scholastic record an accurate index of your scholastic ability?

Plan Ahead!

Writing a strong letter takes time and multiple drafts. Due to end-of-semester grading, holiday travel, and new semester preparations, please submit all materials at least 3 weeks before your deadline.

The more organized you are, the easier it will be for me to write and submit your letters.
