Sean Hon is an Associate Professor at Hong Kong Baptist University. He received his DPhil in Mathematics from the University of Oxford, and his research spans numerical analysis and the mathematics of data science.
His current work focuses on developing theoretical frameworks and efficient numerical methods for evolutionary partial differential equations, PDE-constrained optimization, and deep learning. A significant part of his research explores diagonalization-based parallel-in-time preconditioners, known as ParaDiag methods, which aim to improve the scalability and efficiency of time-parallel solvers for evolutionary PDE problems.
He is also interested in the analysis and preconditioning of Toeplitz-related systems, which arise widely in numerical PDEs, approximation theory, compressed sensing, image processing, and mathematical physics. By designing effective preconditioners for structured linear systems, his work contributes to faster and more reliable computational methods across scientific computing and data-driven applications.
