  • UQ staff: use MyAurion (Dashboard/My Forms, add a new Kilometre Claim) for mileage; use ProMaster for other expenses. (Anna can do the ProMaster bit with the other receipts for you if that's easier. In this case please message her about it by 12 July.)

Preparation

  • This Google Form should guide you through the preparation. Please answer the first three questions by 10 June.

  • Print the schedule of talks, Kempf-Ness Paper, and Bertrand Russel Lectures (See Below).

  • The PDF version of the HIRS induction document can be found here, the original (DOCX) version is here. The induction form to fill out is here.

  • You can find the Snorkel Registration Questionnaire here.

  • Travel Declaration for UQ students.

Good to know:

  • HIRS provides sheets, blankets and pillows, but not towels. Bring some with you! “A towel, [...] is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.”

  • Bring a pair of shoes you don't mind using in the ocean to keep yourself safe from critters on the bottom.

  • Here is the recording of the Zoom orientation on 24 June.

  • Internet access may be spotty on Heron Island.

  • The Heron Island Catamaran has a luggage limit of two bags per customer.

  • The island has interesting animals and plants. In particular, the birds are said to be quite loud. You may wish to bring earplugs. HIRS induction will have detailed information about what else to keep in mind.

  • In some cases, we will ask scientific participants to share a room.

  • Do you have a question or remark? If it is urgent, email Anna (a.puskas@uq.edu.au). If not, you can leave it here.

  • Glasses are incompatible with snorkeling masks. It might be a good idea to bring (disposable) contact lenses for snorkeling.

  • For snorkeling: the plan is to stay on the surface, and not do any breath-hold diving.
