NAfME History SRIG 

Welcome!

This is the official site of the History of Music Education Special Research Interest Group (SRIG).  Welcome to all members and those interested in the history of music education!

In addition to this website, we communicate with our members through email and our electronic newsletter.  The membership meets at the national conference of NAfME to hear research presentations by some of the leading scholars in the field and to discuss SRIG operations. We also hold a History Symposium every other summer.

Announcements

We are sad to share that fellow historian, Dr. Melvin Platt, passed away last Friday, 11/7/2025. Dr. Platt was the keynote speaker for our most recent History Symposium in Normal, Illinois, and a former director of the Mizzou School of Music.
