The Badminton World Federation is the official governing organization for the sport, which dates back to 1934. 

The B.W.F. governs badminton through many ways, a couple ways are:

• Developing regulations for the game and overseeing major international matches. 

• Establishing a code of conduct through their code of ethics 

• Ensuring fair play is given to all players worldwide by regulating competitions 

Current  Issues facing Badminton:

Some current issues facing the sport of Badminton are Gender disparities. While Badminton has shown growth over the years, one of its main struggles is Women's representation. Badminton is a male-dominated sport, this could be due to various social factors. For example Social expectations of women, Financial issues, and limited access to training for women. This does not mean there aren’t women in Badminton, but the ones who are are not at the same level as men. The men in Badminton typically play at a higher level than women, this so due to a lack of sponsorships for women and media coverage for women's badminton. While the BWF has made many motions to try to close that gap between genders, it is still a current issue.

Considering this game was formerly claimed to have evolved from the games of battledore and shuttlecock, which were commonly played in Greece, China, and India, the history of badminton's cultural aspects appears to be deeply ingrained in ancestors. In Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia, the sport is linked to local traditions and mythology. Games comparable to badminton were part of family life and were frequently played during occasions for celebration. 

The custom of playing badminton games is believed to have passed down through centuries, forming a historical connection between current badminton and traditional activities.

The emphasis on badminton was an essential form of pride for Indonesians since it reflected a rich cultural legacy passed down through centuries. This ancient custom has grown, demonstrating not just the sport's diversification but also the nation's commitment and pride into the sport. 

While the level of play improves with each new generation, it represents the ongoing evolution of human innovative thinking along with the ability to adapt cultural traditions to modern developments. Therefore, badminton signifies not just any physical ability but also the sense of cultural perseverance in Indonesia.
