The Kessler Cemetery is the resting place of early settlers and families who helped build this community. Many graves here date back to the early pioneer period of northwest Missouri, when the region around St. Joseph was a frontier settlement. Please help us preserve this historic place by following these guidelines.
This is a burial ground and sacred place.
Please behave respectfully and speak quietly while visiting.
Do not sit, stand, or lean on headstones.
All the markers are over 100 years old and can easily break.
Do not attempt to move stones or clean them.
Walk carefully and watch where you step.
Some graves may be unmarked or hidden below the ground, an may be overgrown by vegetation during the summer months.
Do not remove stones, flowers, or artifacts.
Do not leave trash behind.
Please pack out anything you bring with you.
Do not climb fences, monuments, or structures.
Metal detecting or digging is not allowed.
This cemetery is located in a rural area on private or protected land, we prefer anyone visiting would plan to do so when the crops have been harvested in the fall. It is about a half mile walk back to the cemetery from the gravel road. Please do not attempt to drive back to the cemetery unless you secure permission from the landowner.
Please park only in a safe area and avoid blocking roads or farm access.
