Hello! I am Arda Eren GÜNER, I am Secretary-General of Historical İstanbul Model United Nations 2020. First of all, We want this page to help you and we can say, we will help!
I. What Is The Model United Nations?
MUN stands for Model United Nations. In short, it is an academic activity where the world's most pressing sag issues the United Nations tackles are debated and solved using the same procedures as the UN. MUNs are hosted all around the world from Oxford university to Harvard and right here in Belgium, the most well known in Belgium being our very own conference hosted by HistMUN. These conferences are open for anyone to join. Each conference is split into several committees who each discuss several topics ranging from the legislation of autonomous weapons, women's rights in less developed countries, mental health in conflict zones and many more, depending on the committee.
II. What Is The Historical Istanbul Model United Nations?
HistMUN is Historical Model UN in İstanbul, we are so creative because of this, we said Historical İstanbul MUN. All of our committees in the past time! We don't have any named procedure.
III. How Can I Choose a Committee?
Yes, I say to know the things that you don’t like instead of your interests. Your conference cannot establish a committee according to each interest. I am interested in yoga but I’ve never seen a committee about yoga or meditation. I am saying that if you are not interested in history, you shouldn’t choose a historical committee or if you are changing the channel of the TV during the period of economic news, do not choose ECOFIN. It is that simple.
You may be tired while you’re discussing serious topics from your previous conferences. If it is, you may prefer fantasy committees or you may learn the mechanisms of local security organizations you can choose NATO or OSCE. If you are bored from GA committees you can choose special committees like the UN Security Council.
IV. Is Crisis a Problem?
The crisis is the biggest fun in the committee. So, this isn't a problem unlike crises give more fun, action, and excitement.
V. What Is The JCC?
Joint Crisis Committees (more commonly known as JCC) are committees that are not your typical GA committee. They are intense, urgent, spontaneous, dynamic and require intense and efficient research skills and preparation. The committee does not have a wide variety of delegations nor have formal debates over resolutions and is led in a different format. Therefore it is an interesting and fun committee to be a part of. Since the committee is extremely fast-paced, the delegates are required to be ready for immediate decision making and work for the definite defeat of the ideological enemy. In this article, I will be talking about the differences of JCC committees from conventional GA committees, special procedures, types of actions and state some tips for delegates who are thinking about attending this committee in upcoming conferences.
So this is all but if you have other questions you can send e-mail to us. See you on 2 July 2020 in HistMUN'20. And we need to say special thanks to MUNTurkey.Com because they supported so much!
