Hirley Alves is an Associate Professor and the Machine-type Wireless Communications Group leader at the Centre for Wireless Communications (CWC), at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE), University of Oulu.
He is the Director of the Doctoral Programme at the ITEE and the Thematic Area Leader of Strategic Research Area 1 - Theme C: Massive Wireless Automation under the 6G Flagship Program.
Hirley is working on massive connectivity and ultra-reliable low-latency communications for future 6G wireless networks, 6G resilience, semantic and goal-oriented communications, distributed processing and learning, and reinforcement learning.
He has received several awards and has been the organiser, chair, TPC, and tutorial lecturer for several renowned international conferences. He is the General Chair of ISWCS 2019, the General Co-Chair of the 1st 6G Summit (Levi 2019) and ISWCS 2021, as well as the Chair of the PIRMC 2021 Track 1 and the 6G Resilience Summit 2025.
