Since being elected four years ago as your Councillor, it has been my honour to serve constituents in the Ward where I was born and raised as the only child of two loving, hard working parents. Truro is so important to me and Ward 3 is part of my history and who I am.
Six years ago, as a founder of the non-profit East End Community Association, our four members have grown to over a thousand, dealing with neighbourhood concerns, unsightly properties and community engagement. Each month my Councillor Update is sent to those on my mailing list. Communication is so important as we move forward in the days, weeks, months and years ahead.
Together we have seen safer neighborhoods, home improvements, derelict properties either cleaned up or demolished, paving of streets and sidewalks, the current relocation of scrap metal from John Ross and Sons to the Industrial Park, a sense of renewed community pride, enhancements to Victoria Park and fundraising of nearly $50,000 for the Herb Peppard Park, new home construction, bike and walking trails, supporting our local business community and working to preserve greenspace.
There is still so much to accomplish with our streets and sidewalks, the business sector in these ever changing times, housing issues, unsightly premises, vacant properties, streetscapes, healthy and safe neighborhoods, youth engagement, diversity, promoting Truro to the world, celebrating our heritage and safety for seniors. Many of our streets and sidewalks have not been upgraded for decades and things are now moving forward like Wood Street, Palmer Street, Brunswick Street and the list goes on.
Seven days a week I have made myself available to constituents listening and following up with your issues. Your concerns are my concerns. My values are open communication, honest interaction with no personal gain, being fiscally responsible with your tax dollars and wanting the very best for the Ward I love. I believe the best is yet to be in the Town of Truro and that is why I am asking for your vote in the upcoming election. I have tried my best to be a voice and an emotional support to my constituents during one of the most difficult periods our Town has experienced. We have isolated, we have grieved and we have been here for one another.
