Hindi Patshala is run on a pure volunteer basis by volunteers who are passionate about Hindi Language. Please be considerate and understanding if there is any misunderstanding.

Why is learning Hindi important?
Hindi is our national language and is spoken by many people in India. One can communicate with family members, grand parents and relatives. You can also earn college credit for learning a foreign language.
Who can join Hindi class?
Hindi Patshala started in the year 2010 and only accepts students enrolled in the Jain study class. We are a part of the larger study class at the Jain temple of Greater Detroit. You have to be part of Jain study class. Kids who only attend Hindi patshala and miss the Jain study class will be notified to the Jain Study class administration.

What curriculum does the Hindi class/Patshala follow?
Hindi Patshala follows the books used by Hindi USA. Hindi USA is the largest Hindi speaking and learning non- profit in USA. We follow the syllabus and exams conducted by Hindi USA. Here is the link to learn more about Hindi USA - http://www.hindiusa.info/
Who is responsible for syllabus, books?
The individual teachers are responsible for the syllabus as laid out by Hindi USA. Vinita Parekh works with the teachers and Hindi USA in case of any questions on syllabus.
What is the Hindi Patshala calendar?
Hindi Patshala follows the 1-1/2 year model (alternating from Jan Y - Jun Y+1 and Sep Y - Dec Y+1). The details are posted on the Hindi Patshala website and Jain Temple schedule.
How many times does Hindi Patshala meet in a month?
Hindi Patshala follows the Jain study class calendar. There will be 2 or 3 extra classes for review before the exam. The details are posted on the Hindi Patshala website.
What time does the Hindi Patshala meet?
Hindi Patshala begins at 9:45am unless notified.
Who are the teachers teaching the Hindi class?
Parents who have good grasp over the language volunteer their time to teach the kids. They are motivated and excited about teaching the kids this great language of ours in the best possible manner.
What is the registration process?
Registration for the Hindi Patshala is done online. Parents are informed via email and Jain vani.
How do parents find information about the Hindi class?
We put the registration dates on the temple website http://www.jsgd.org/. We also send email to all existing members of Hindi Class and Publish the date in Jain Vani.
How is the registration money used in the Hindi class?
We use all the registration money during the same calendar year. The typical expenses are

What activities does Hindi Patshala do to promote Indian culture?
We have Diwali Celebration and Temple Decoration. Book Drive during Gyan Pacham. We do class room projects year around like "Leaders of India", "Festivals of India". We have Hindi Sanskruti Diwas where students showcase Indian culture through dances, songs, skits and poems.
Does Hindi Patshala have exams and when?
Hindi Class has two exams, one at end of each semester. The first semester exam is week before the Christmas/Winter holidays. The second semester exam is a week before Memorial Day (May end). The Hindi Sanskruti Diwas is week after Memorial Day. The make up days for each of the exams because of bad weather will be posted/emailed. In case your traveling you have to notify the teachers well in advance and take the exam prior to the general exam.
What is Hindi Sanskruti Diwas and do I have to participate?
The Hindi Sanskruti Diwas is week after Memorial Day. This is the annual celebration of the Hindi Patshala. We alternate between outdoor picnic at Shiawassee Park, Farmington and indoor event at Temple. This might change based on parents and students feedback. We do class wise performances in the indoor event - these are cultural performances like Dances, Cooking Shows, Skits, Poems, Fashion Shows showcasing the culture of India and in Hindi. Participation is mandatory and only in case you are traveling or sick you are excused. We serve light dinner at the end of the event.
How can Hindi Patshala help in earning college credit?
We are working with the faculty at University of Michigan to get college credits for our students who have passed the Hindi USA exams. University of Michigan has an testing out exam for Hindi language. For details contact Vinita Parekh.
Do we need Whats App and what if I don't have one?
We encourage communication using Whats App, where we can send assignments and students can submit the assignments using voice, video and text. In case you don't have Whats App, you can send it using regular email, but this will take longer for the teachers to grade or give immediate feedback.
What are other policy and guidelines I need to be aware of?
The following are the rules and policy for Hindi Class
Tardy Policy: Anyone arriving 5 minutes after the class start time will be marked as Tardy (Late)
Attendance Policy: Students need to maintain 80% attendance for the class year to effectively learn the language. In case of special circumstances (traveling to India or out of town, sick) they need to notify the teacher. Attendance will be monitored in each of the two semesters and if the attendance below 50% then the student cannot enroll in Hindi Class next year unless there are valid reasons. We expect students and parents to honor this.
Homework Policy: All homework will be notified well in advance and homework has to be completed on time.
Classwork Participation: Students are expected to be fully engaged in the class room work.
Class Dates and Timings: Class dates and timings will be notified on the website and in email. In case of any changes they will be reflected in the website and in the emails.
Admission Policy: All admissions are done through online registration. In case you don't get emails please visit the website during the first week on June to enroll.
