Senior Scientist
Dr Himangshu Paul has been working as a Senior Scientist at CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad. He obtained his PhD in Earth Sciences from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Kolkata and carried out postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge, UK, and the Institute of Seismological Research, Gandhinagar.
He was the recipient of the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) ITN Experienced Researcher Fellowship in 2016 and obtained the National Post Doctoral Fellowship from DST SERB in 2017. He is recently elected as an Associate Fellow of the Telangana Academy of Sciences. He is a life member of the Indian Geophysical Union and the Indian Society of Earthquake Sciences.
Dr Paul is an active researcher in the field of Seismology. His major works include seismological imaging of the crust of the Sikkim Himalaya, the Eastern Indian Shield, the South Indian Shield, regions in the Deccan Volcanic Province, such as the Kachchh and Palghar seismic zones, and mantle structure beneath the north Indian Ocean using different seismological imaging techniques. He has also worked extensively on the source characteristics of Himalayan, intraplate and triggered earthquakes in Peninsular India. In recent studies, Dr Paul attempts to understand the complex triggering processes associated with landslide-like hazards through continuous seismic monitoring.
Dr Paul teaches an advanced course in Seismology and a course on Probability and Statistics as an AcSIR Assistant Professor to the PhD students enrolled in CSIR-NGRI. He has supervised several internship projects and 3 master dissertations. He is supervising 4 PhD students (under progress).
