Library Policies

Borrowing Policy

During library time, students may select and check out materials. Students may come during designated times within the school day to exchange books as long as they have a pass to the library from class. Students may not exchange books while another class is in session.

Students are allowed to check out one book at a time.

Books circulate for a two week period. If students wish to renew their books for another week, they should bring them to renew during their library class.

Students may not take out new books until previously checked out books have been returned.

If a book is lost or damaged, students must pay a replacement fee. Borrowing privileges will be reinstated upon receipt of payment for the lost or damaged book.

Acceptable Use Policy

New Haven Public Schools District Acceptable Use Policy for Student Use of Technology (“AUP”)

The Board recognizes that in order to meet the needs of a 21st century learner, it is essential to develop and use technology skills in order to learn and communicate. The purpose of district technology resources and Internet access are to support students’ education.

The use of any New Haven Public School technology resource must be in support of educational purposes and aligned with the educational objectives of the New Haven Public School District.

Any violation of established district or school policy as well as local, state or federal laws and regulations is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Accessing, displaying, creating or sending offensive content (i.e. profane, rude, vulgar or abusive language, images, videos or communications);

• Harassing, insulting, threatening or attacking others;

• Damaging any technology resources or computer networks;

• Violating copyright laws;

• Using another’s password;

• Trespassing in another’s account, drive, folder or file; and

• Intentionally wasting limited resources.

Violations of this Acceptable Use Policy for Student Use of Technology may result in a loss of student’s access to technology resources, as well as other disciplinary or legal action. School rules for student conduct (Board Policy 5131a/b) and communications apply (Board Policy 5145.2a/b).

Any representative of the New Haven Public School District may review any material on user accounts and monitor server space in order to make determinations on appropriate use and conduct. The representative may close an account or prohibit student access to the network at any time.

The Board expects that staff will blend thoughtful use of technology resources, the Internet and any district network throughout the curriculum. Staff will provide guidance and instruction to students on the appropriate use of such resources. Staff will consult the guidelines for instructional materials contained in Board Policy 6161 and will honor the goals for selection of instructional materials contained therein.

Independent student use of technology resources and information will be permitted upon submission of permission forms by parents of minor students (under 18 years of age) and by students themselves. All users will be expected to sign a Code of Conduct for Technology Use agreement, which outlines expectations for acceptable use.

The Board authorizes the Superintendent to prepare appropriate procedures for implementing this policy.
