About Me
Background I received my doctorate in Gender, Feminist and Women's Studies from York University, under the supervision of Prof. Eva Karpinski. After earning my MA at Simon Fraser University, I received a postgraduate diploma at George Brown College in Social Service Work and worked in Mental Health and Addictions, Housing Services, and Long-Term Care for 10 years before returning to York University to complete my doctoral studies.
Teaching Philosophy My pedagogy is a feminist project that prioritizes relationality as a political value. Through many years attending and teaching Women and Gender Studies classes, as well as working in the mental health field, I've learned that critical thought and emotional awareness are mutually supportive processes. I aim to promote emotional and political reflexivity as a method for bridging theory and praxis in the classroom.
Consulting I offer my expertise at the intersection of social services and critical analysis to consult on interdisciplinary projects and engage in committee work. I am a member of the LGBTQ Advisory Committee in the Division of Seniors Services and Long Term Care at the City of Toronto, where I advise on education and training development and design. I also provide consultation on various projects in the Dept. of Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto in critical data studies. In my current role as a supervisor for the Grey Bruce Local Immigration Partnership, I draw on my experience in Research, Education and Strategic Initiatives leadership to convene a partnership council of community stakeholders. I also serve as a member of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee at the County of Bruce.
