Make sure your CCTV camera is not invading anybody’s privacy. With the increasing use of CCTV cameras, privacy issues are also increasing.

From the past decade, security systems have become an essential part of our lives. They are not just installed for personal and professional security but now government law enforcement authorities and police also prefer using CCTV cameras. With the increasing security concerns, the government has made some laws and policies to place CCTV cameras that one has to follow.

Indoor Privacy

Let’s talk first about indoor cameras.

Good news is that you are not restricted by law to place cameras inside your home, you can place them anywhere, but make sure all the family members are aware of the presence of cameras. Parents can put hidden cameras to watch their kids and baby sitters (even without their concern.) respect the privacy of all family members and don’t place cameras in washrooms and bedrooms.

Even if there are no law restrictions, ethics are still there.

If you are inviting guests for dinners or having small set together in your house, inform them about the presence of security cameras. Watching or listening to private conversations or talks of people even at your home is not right and a breach of privacy.

Outdoor Privacy

let me first clarify one thing. I am not going to talk bad about outdoor cameras or defame them in anyways.

I am one of the admirers of Dahua cameras in Lahore and they have really provided to a boon for us to sustain security.

Outdoor surveillance is essential for all homeowners, shopkeepers, business owners or even the police and other government authorities. They make you feel secure at home and workplaces and of course and they have significantly reduced the crime rate.

With all due respect to the CCTV cameras’ contributions, my concern is to make all of you aware of all the privacy issues they can cause.

Following are some common privacy inventions caused by security cameras.

Are your security cameras covering some areas of your neighbors?

If yes, then you need to talk to your neighbors.

You can tell your neighbors about your security concerns and if they are OK with your security cameras covering some part of their house, there would be no issue.

But, now raise the question, what areas are you covering?

Are you covering areas such as lawn or play area, taris, or they are private areas?

In some cases, neighbors would have no issues with your cameras if it is just limited to their open areas. Neighbors usually don’t mind your outdoor cameras because they know your intension.

But sometimes when your cameras get into the private places of neighbors such as bedrooms. It’s a really serious issue.

No law permits you to surveillance someone’s private areas. Your neighbors can claim a privacy case against you and it can cause you huge trouble. So, monitor the footage of your cameras and make sure they are properly positioned. Only cover the target areas that need security surveillance.

If you are a business owner with an organized workplace structure, then this point is for you.

Believe it or not, your employees don’t like CCTV’s. Nobody wants to be monitored all the time.

Workplace cameras sometimes can be very annoying.

Final Words!

I have covered almost all problems related to the privacy concerns of CCTV cameras. I am not discouraging the use of security cameras but I just want you to be extra careful next time and be on the safer side and make sure you are using them the right way.
