Meet our Lesson Horses

Willie Nelson

Willie is a 9 year old Thoroughbred. He is a retired race horse and raced in Arizona and Washington. You would never guess he used to run that fast! 

Willie is a sweetheart and specializes in low level dressage as well as low level jumpers. Willie is available for lessons to intermediate and advanced riders. Willie loves to work and just doesn't think standing still in a saddle counts.

Willie loves children and is gentle even with toddlers. He may be big but is very safe and available for pony rides!

Willie's favorite treats are apples and molasses cookies. His favorite rides are when he gets to jump and he is always happy to try something new! 

Tennessee Whiskey

Whiskey is a 14 year old Appaloosa. Whiskey has been at HDEC for one year and has really become comfortable in his skin. Whiskey came to us underweight and scared. Now, he is happy and healthy! 

Whiskey specializes in western style riding. He absolutely loves patterns and will make a great ranch horse once his owner gets him to a few shows. Whiskey is available for lessons to riders of all abilities. He particularly enjoys teaching beginners and is very forgiving of mistakes. 

Whiskey is available for all pony rides. In fact, Whiskey loves pony rides because he gets to walk slow and get a treat at the end! 

Whiskey's favorite treats are apples! His favorite rides are relaxing trail rides though he loves learning something new and feeling like he did well. 

Carasel

Carasel is a 19 year old Missouri Foxtrotter and is one of two new additions to our herd here at HDEC. Carasel came to us at the beginning of July with her miniature donkey friend, Jose. Isn't Jose cute! Carasel is still getting used to being here and we hope to incorporate her into our lesson program within the next few months! 

Carasel is a western style ride and loves going out on trails. It is what her breed is built for after all! She is gaited and a very smooth, comfortable ride. Carasel has been used for pony rides most of her life and will transition well into doing that here. After some good food and exercise she will be ready to take on being an easy lesson horse for her retirement! Our website will be updated when she is ready for clients and current clients will be notified. 

Carasel loves all treats but will be fed in her feed bucket while we learn more about her habits and make sure she is safe for clients!

Jaeger

Jaeger is a 6 year old Quarter Horse gelding. He is a sweetheart and the primary mount for our instructor, Logan. Jaeger has a great foundation and is primarily a western ride. 

Jaeger is the perfect gentleman for all levels of riders! He does mostly western pony rides and lessons.

Andrea

Andy is a 17 year old Thoroughbred. She is a retired racehorse, too! After retiring from racing, she went on to play professional polo. From there Andy was donated to the Texas A&M Polo Club. 

Andy played polo at Texas A&M for a few years where she primarily served with the men's team.  She was retired from the program in 2017 to one of our instructors, Brooke, and has been with her ever since! 

Andy is primarily an english style ride. Her favorite treats are German muffins!
