Hidde Schönberger

Welcome to my webpage! I am currently a Postdoc in the field of Calculus of Variations and Partial Differential Equations at University of Twente. I am part of NWO VIDI project SPARGO: Exploring and Exploiting the Geometric Landscape of Infinite-Dimensional Sparse Optimization of Marcello Carioni.

I completed my PhD at KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, and previously held postdoc positions at TU Wien and UCLouvain.

Research interests

I am interested in analyzing mathematical problems motivated by applications, such as materials science and image processing, especially using tools from calculus of variations and partial differential equations. Some specific aspects include:

Nonlocal variational problems (Existence results, Lower semicontinuity, Relaxation)
Asymptotic analysis of variational problems via Γ-convergence (Homogenization, Nonlocal-to-local limits, Dimension reduction, Discrete-to-Continuum limits)
Analysis of nonlocal function spaces (Poincaré inqualities for nonlocal gradients, Compact embeddings, Nonlocal BV-functions)
