My career has spanned secondary education, mathematical research (including a PhD in geometric group theory), and post-secondary education. Across these experiences, a common thread has been my commitment to understanding how students learn mathematics and how thoughtful content, curriculum, and assessment design can support that learning. Through consulting, I've contributed to projects with lasting local and national impact. I'm continually drawn to opportunities where innovation, instruction, and assessment intersect to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics. Explore some of my consulting work below.
I began working with Learnvia as a contracted content author in May 2025 and will transition to a full-time role in January 2027. Through this work, I've contributed to the development of mathematics course frameworks, instructional content, and author training across the precalculus and calculus curriculum.
Precalculus Course Framework Author and Author Trainer
Developed the precalculus course framework and supported the training of content authors.
Calculus II Content Author, Co-author Trainer, and Course Framework Author
Developed instructional content and course framework materials for Calculus II, while also supporting the training of content authors.
Calculus I Content Author
Developed instructional content for Calculus I.
I recently became a Math Specialist Consultant to Student Acheivement Partners (SAP) as they take steps to answer the following question: what is the foundational mathematics all students should know and be able to do before they specialize? To determine the math that matters, I will work with SAP to develop key updates that:
Stengthen coherance
Increase focus
Embed relevance and connection
Refines language, and
Empowers states with modern expectations
I've collaborated with the Hawaiʻi Department of Education on mathematics content and curriculum development since 2012, when the state began developing instructional materials aligned with the 2010 Common Core State Standards. Although this work paused while I pursued my PhD, I resumed collaborating with HIDOE shortly after returning to the classroom in Hawaiʻi. Since then, my work has expanded to include standards revision, curriculum development, mathematics pathways, and quantitative reasoning.
Quantitative Reasoning Curriculum Development Lead
Leading the development of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) for the new quantitative reasoning course.
Mathematics Standards Revision Consultant
Contributed to the revision of Hawaiʻi's high school mathematics standards, including the development of course-specific standards and standards for a new quantitative reasoning course.
Mindset Mathematics Summer Academy Content Developer
Developed supplemental instructional materials for the Mindset Mathematics Summer Academy, engaging students in grades 8 and 9 with mathematics through experiences that extend beyond traditional textbooks and classroom instruction.
Math Pathways Coalition Member
Collaborated with stakeholders to inform and reshape the mathematics pathways available to Hawaiʻi students as they progress through high school.
Common Core State Standards Content Developer
Developed Algebra II and Statistics instructional content aligned with the 2010 Common Core State Standards.
I've consulted for the College Board in both its instructional spaces (Pre-AP Mathematics) and assessment spaces (AP Precalculus and SAT). My work has included leading revisions to the Pre-AP Algebra I course framework, developing specialized curricular content for Pre-AP Algebra II, writing mathematics assessment items for AP Precalculus, and developing rationales for SAT Mathematics items.
Pre-AP Algebra I Committee Chair
Led the committee responsible for revisions to the Pre-AP Algebra I course framework, student resources, and teacher resources.
Pre-AP Algebra II Blueprint Author
Developed and championed the alternate Unit 4 content and blueprint, focusing on matrices and linear transformations.
Pre-AP Curriculum and Assessment Developer
Contributed to curriculum and assessment development for Pre-AP Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II.
AP Precalculus Item Author
Developed assessment items (MQCs) for AP Precalculus Exam.
SAT Mathematics Rationale Author
Authored mathematical rationales for SAT Mathematics assessment items.
