DECA (formerly the Distributive Education Clubs of America) is an organization that has existed since 1946 and was established as a way for high school and college students to gain hands on experience in the world of Marketing. Since then, DECA has expanded it's scope from Marketing to all facets of business education including Sales, Accounting, Finance, and Management just to name a few.
DECA provides a platform where students are able to showcase both their book knowledge as well as their personality and communication skills via presentations, role plays, and leadership academies. Students who compete in events have a variety of options to choose from: individual role plays, team role plays, community service project, marketing campaigns, sales pitches... the list goes on and on. There is even an opportunity to compete in The Stock Market Game as well as a multitude of Virtual Businesses via the company Knowledge Matters. Competitions are held at the Regional, State, and National/International levels.
DECA members are Emerging Leaders who, by the end of their time with the organization, have grown strong in their interpersonal skills which have improved their employment opportunities, tripled their professional network, and gained confidence in their self-created brand.
