The publications staff are students from across campus with the main goal of representing Hoover as a whole. It is one of the few student organizations that apply their academics to real world skills. The staff is responsible for two things: the yearbook and the news website.
As a member of the staff, you will be writing news articles, covering student activities such as clubs and sports, and taking photos of events and people. Every year Hoover has a unique story. You will bring that story to life each day, both inside and outside the classroom. Our publications program will teach you real-world skills in photography, writing, design, leadership, business and more.
We do require our staff members to be flexible because there are times when the assignment will require you to stay after-school. There will be some months where we work on Saturdays, but it is usually the editors and if you can help, that would be great.
Also, staff members work closely together, and as a publication, we are an "equal opportunity organization," regardless of academy, age, ancestry, color, disability, national origin, race, sex, gender, gender identity and gender expression, sexual orientation, and any other protected status in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws.
But most importantly, as a staff member, you will have one of the funnest semesters (or year) as a student at Hoover High School! We have TMZ style story meetings, cultural exchange days, scavenger hunts, and the annual celebration of Pi Week every 3/21.
