Highline High School
Highline High School
The first Key Club was formed almost 100 years ago in 1925 by the global service club Kiwanis International and stands today as one of the largest and oldest student-led high school service programs in the world.
Created in hopes of inspiring youth to become actively connected to their community members and leaders, Key Club provides its members with opportunities to do service to their community and build long-lasting relationships. We the members of Highline High School's Key Club strive to better our own community and develop strong leadership among other good qualities through countless volunteer opportunities, leadership roles, and service projects. Not only that, but through this club, we have found to form a community and friendships with those we may not have considered before.
At heart, we the members of Key Club are simply a community of caring and fun-loving individuals who help because we can, because we want to, and because we love to. It's why we joined.
Who are the Kiwanis?
Just as Key Clubbers, the Kiwanis love helping people. Hosting nearly 150,000 service projects a year, the Kiwanis' mission is dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. Kiwanis International is a collection of clubs around the globe that serve their community just as Highline High School's Key Club does. However, as high school clubs take care of their communities locally, the international organization takes on large-scale issues, fighting challenges such as disease and poverty.
What does HELP END HUNGER INTIATIVE MEAN?
The Help End Hunger Initiative is more than a project, it's a movement. Food insecurity impacts youth tremendously as 13 million children are likely to experience it according to Feeding America. Services include Fundraising, Packing, Distribution, Food Drives, Education, etc.
The 2022-2023 Pacific Northwest Key Club District Project is the Help End Hunger initiative, chosen by District Kyle Hanson and approved by the 2022-2023 District Board. This initiative goes beyond being a project; it’s a movement. Our goal for this District Project is to provide Key Clubbers and Kiwanians with the resources, knowledge, and inspiration to make an impact in their local communities to help end hunger. Since the District Project isn’t partnering with one specific organization, every Key Clubber has the opportunity to directly impact their own community.
The Hunger Project, a non-profit organization, is our district's 2022-2023 District Project. This project -- instead of tackling surface issues such as simply providing those in poverty with more food -- strives to tackle the roots of world-wide starvation and create independence instead of dependence in the communities it supports. With the goal of not only addressing these root issues but educating individuals on them as well, the Hunger Project is an organization that is committed to breaking the cycle of hunger and poverty.
