ABOUT US
The Hallelujah Helen Memorial Fund (HHMF) provides summer camp "camperships" (scholarships) for children ages 5 to 12.
We believe all children should be able to attend summer camps because they promote physical activity and holistic childhood development where children gain valuable life skills, build resilience, and develop confidence.
OUR HISTORY
'Hallelujah' Helen and her husband Chuck Wennekamp were devout Christian children's pastors with a passion for childhood development. In the late 1970s, they built a Christian summer camp on their 80 acres of land near Las Vegas, New Mexico (not Nevada). For decades, their generosity ensured countless kids had enriching summers by funding camp experiences for those who couldn't afford them.
A visit to Camp Dry Gulch in Oklahoma in the late 1980s sparked a transformation for Helen and Chuck. Inspired by what they experienced, they decided to rebrand their own camp, transforming it into Camp Shiloh.
Never one to stop giving, Helen launched a scholarship program in 1999. This application-based process ensured continued camp access for children whose parents couldn't afford it. Helen and Chuck would host fundraisers and often pay for the scholarships out of their own pockets. Helen always believed the kids got so much out of camp, away from any distractions of everyday life, be it friends, school and even, in some cases, family situations; that she wanted as many kids to experience summer camp as possible.
When Helen passed away in 2008, her family was so inspired to keep her legacy of giving alive that they started the Hallelujah Helen Memorial Fund (HHMF).
DONATE NOW
HHMF needs your support. We are a 501c3 charity with all donations going directly towards summer camp camperships and are tax deductible.
CAMPERSHIP APPLICATION
If you cannot afford summer camp for your 5 to 12 year old child, you may apply for a HHMF campership. We accept campership applications for traditional, sports, scout, academic, expedition, STEAM, special needs and religious camps, as long as the camp is away from home and promotes healthy childhood development.
