WHOLE GROUP DISCUSSION
Recall an example of a design in your own experiences as learners that was, for you and your classmates, both engaging and effective. Share your stories together for a few minutes. Afterwards, generalize those experiences: What seems to be common to all the learning experiences you shared from a design point of view? [Brainstorm and record on a shared document]
TWO GROUPS
Split into 2 small groups, A and B, to discuss the following:
[Group A] When are most students fully engaged in and out of school? What makes them so engaged and keeps them engaged? What are the transferable elements of the examples shared by the group?
[Group B] When is student learning most effective? Under what conditions are learners most productive? Under what conditions is the highest-quality work produced? What makes for the most effective learning, and what are the transferable elements from these examples?
INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN
Go through the initial unit plans for your grade/department on the SharePoint together and familiarize yourselves with the work that has been done so far.
If so, your Curriculum in Action group will work on designing learning experiences this afternoon.

WHERETO: LEARNING EXPERIENCES
Work collaboratively through the WHERETO handout in your grade/department-level SharePoint folder to develop learning experiences related to desired understandings for one of that grade level/department’s units. The document for each group is located in the SharePoint and each grade level or department would complete one template as their exit ticket.
Think outside the box together. Use this time to collaboratively brainstorm ideas that scaffold learners through the process of achieving the desired understandings.
