Kindergarten, first, second, and third grade students at Westbrook Elementary receive 30 minutes of enrichment weekly, on an alternating rotation with counselor, Mrs. Robinson, and GT facilitator, Mr. Bagwell. This allows for our students to have time for their social and emotional learning skills to be developed, as well as time for their creativity and critical thinking to be explored in the GT resource room. A staple of the K-3 enrichment experience is the P.E.T.S curriculum, which is a systematized enrichment and diagnostic thinking skills program. Lessons are presented in convergent analysis, divergent synthesis, visual/spatial thinking, and evaluation. The program aligns to the higher levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy
Grades 3-6 are served in a pull-out format for 150 minutes minimum each week with Mr. Bagwell, in the GT resource room. During this time a wide-variety of cross-curricular topics will be covered. Topics / units of study will include:
Science, Technology, Engineering, Math
History Day (research and presentation skills)
Logic Puzzles and Mysteries
Shakespeare / Theater / Poetry
Chess
NewzBrain Weekly Civics Interactive Trivia
Quiz Bowl
AND MANY MORE!
