ENHANCING REGIONAL COOPERATION FOR TRANSFORMATIVE ADAPTATION IN THE ASIA-PACIFIC: Key barriers, enablers, and policy insights

Background: The current adaptation efforts to address climate change are falling short, necessitating a transformative approach that involves significant systemic change. A major obstacle to progress has been the lack of clear, common definitions for transformational and transformative adaptations, which might lead to inconsistencies in implementation and evaluation and challenges in developing coherent strategies at various levels. In parallel with unifying definitions, pressing efforts to identify pathways, conditions, and enablers leading to the achievement of transformative adaptation is also important given the accelerating pace and severity of climate change impacts.
A promising strategy is to enhance regional collaboration, as exemplified by the 8th APAN Forum in 2023, where organisations across the Asia-Pacific region convened to discuss forward-looking approaches. Further discussion and action on such collaborations are essential to build a society resilient to the dynamic impacts of climate change.
Objectives: The objective of this webinar is to share the collaborative efforts by APAN, IGES, and ICCCAD in advancing regional collaboration for transformative adaptation in the Asia-Pacific.
Specifically, the webinar will:
Present the current challenges in promoting transformative adaptation, explore available solutions, and identify key actors that need to be involved.
Share and discuss key policy recommendations, pathways and enablers in achieving transformative adaptation.
Engage, discuss and validate with government agencies and international organisations about the prospects for transformative adaptation in the region.
