We are the most intelligent animals. Over the years we have changed how we obtain our basic needs from the environment. These are some of the ways I interact with the environment professionally while ensuring sustainability:
Irrigation and drainage designs.
Dam designs.
Waste and Wastewater facility design and management.
Renewable energies; biogas, wind, hydropower, geothermal, and hydrogen.
Machinery design, operation and maintenence.
Environmental Imapct Assesment. (Registered with NEMA)
Design of food preservation and processing facilities.

PROJECTS
A sample project for an NGO had proposed a Food Bill that required citizens to vote in favor or oppose the bill. With over 20,000 precincts in the state of California, there was a need to aggregate the poll results data to the county level for better analysis and visual presentation. This would be done using Geographic Information System software to make it possible to overlay the outcome on a map.
Since the precinct level voting data has attributes for who voted in favor of the measure, as well as the total number of voters, it was in the best interest to make a normalized map showing the percentage of 'Yes' voters rather than total number of voters. This was possible by aggregating both of these attributes to the counties using the spatial join tool. The proportion of yes votes to the total votes was represented by 5 classes, with the darker colors representing a larger proportion.
🥱 TLDR: A project to automate the aeration process in a concrete silo bin to ensure peak storage conditions. Design is based on weather data collected and grain properties.
Grains are naturally hygroscopic, meaning they absorb moisture from their immediate surrounding in order to establish an equilibrium. Also being living organisms, stored grains output heat and moisture from respiration.
However, this poses a threat to the state of the stored grains. An increase in moisture content in the grains is a precursor to grain deterioration from pest activities and the growth of molds.
Zonal Data
This is where aeration kicks in. Setting conditions within allowable ranges of temperature and relative humidity enables longer storage periods therefore food security in the long run.
Automating the process enables operators to focus on other duties, eliminates trial and error and the data generated provides better insight to improve such processes.
Silo drawings
In the design shown in the circuit diagram, the control system for aeration is programmed to ensure the bin's temperature is less than 35° C, while the relative humidity (RH) is less than 65%. These figures are for tropical regions only.
However, redundancy in design is created to cater for sensors' errors or other conditions that affect aeration. The redundancy shuts down the system and prompts operators to take corrective measures in order to save energy wasted in aeration. Such conditions include coring which requires recirculation of grains. Integrating IoT and edge computing in these systems can go further in complimenting operators' work.

🥱 TL;DR: Water scarcity is a real threat, however, it can be mitigated by water management. The model evaluates demand and supply to simulate management practices and the effects.
Water is life, you can't oppose this. The food, the coffee, the buildings, water was involved somewhere in the process. The good news is that it's freely available, the bad news, the availability is diminishing with our ever increase in consumption. However, all hope is not lost, we don't have to consume as much as we do.
hydrological map of Nairobi
Profligate use is where people use water extravagantly. According to WHO, the average daily water need is 25 liters whereas, in the US, the per capita usage is 262 liters per day, which is ten times the minimum. (FOERCH 2007).
By creating assumptions based on expected water consumption in homes and industries, together with meteorological data and streamflow data, information on met water demands and those that are unmet can be extrapolated.
Creating key assumptions for population growth in Nairobi using WEAP
A case for unmet demand in sectors such as irrigation can be introducing drip irrigation, which has a better irrigation efficiency of up to 90% (the ratio of the quantity of water actually used to meet the crops' needs to the quantity of water supplied.
