Crochety is a simple app that converts any image into color blocks for crochet colorwork! My wonderful dad came up with the idea when I brought up my irritation with reading color blocks as a left-handed colorwork crochet artist. He used his awesome software engineer skills to create this tool - thanks dad!
Crochety currently (1/15/24) does not have local memory, so if you refresh the page, your color blocks may disappear! If you are working on a long-term project, be sure to print the page as a pdf just in case!
Due to the way the program selects colors, this is best used for pixel art and images with high contrast.
Begin by uploading an image, adjusting the size to your liking, and choosing the number of colors. Once Crochety has created your color blocks for you, you can then print this page into a pdf.
When the aspect ratio is locked, any adjustment made to the width will also affect the height in proportion (and vice versa). There is an option to unlock the aspect ratio, allowing you to squish and stretch your image as you please! You can also increase or decrease the number of colors (the default is 10). If the image has less than the number of colors selected, it will max out as seen above!
Below the image, you can select where you would like to start crocheting. If you crochet right-handed and would like to start at the top of the image, select "Start at Bottom Right"! Likewise, if you crochet with your left hand, select "Start at Bottom Left"! If, for whatever reason, you would like to work from the top down, the option is also available to you.
You can use the left and right arrows on your keyboard as well as your mouse to select the color block that you are working on to keep track of your progress!
Finally, you can print the page into a pdf, which saves all the color blocks! I highly recommend doing this for long-term projects, ESPECIALLY since Crochety currently does not have memory!!!
