Privacy Policy for HexaConverter

Overview
HexaConverter ("the App," "we," "us," or "our") is a file conversion application. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our App.
This one policy covers both versions of the App: Android, distributed through Google Play, and iOS, distributed through the Apple App Store. The two platforms genuinely differ in a few places — camera access and the advertising prompt among them — and where they do, this policy says which platform it is describing rather than stating the more flattering of the two.
In short: your files never leave your device. All file conversions happen entirely on your device, and we do not collect, store, transmit or share your files or any personal data.
The App is free and is funded by advertising. Ads are supplied by Google AdMob, which is the one part of the App that connects to the internet and the one part that collects anything at all. What it collects is described under "Advertising" below. It never receives your files.
Information We Do Not Collect
HexaConverter does not require or request any of the following:
- Personal information — We do not require account creation, login, sign-up, or any personal identifiers (name, email, phone number, etc.).
- File data — Your files are never uploaded, transmitted, or sent to any server. All conversions are processed 100% locally on your device.
- Usage data or analytics — We do not track how you use the App, which features you use, or collect behavioral analytics. There is no analytics SDK in the App.
- Payment information — The App has no in-app purchases or subscriptions, so no payment or billing information is collected. Every feature is free.
- Location data — We do not access or collect your device's location.
How Your Files Are Handled
When you convert a file using HexaConverter:
- The file you select is processed entirely on your own device using local processing.
- The file never leaves your device — it is not uploaded to any server, cloud service, or third party.
- Converted files and your conversion history are stored locally on your device only.
- You retain full control over your files at all times, including deleting your conversion history directly from your device settings.
Third-Party Services
HexaConverter integrates one third-party service: Google AdMob, which supplies the ads that fund the App. It is the only one. There is no analytics service, no crash reporting, no cloud storage and no file-processing service, because conversion happens on your device.
Google acts as an independent controller of the advertising data it collects, and its handling of that data is governed by its own policies. They are published at policies.google.com/privacy, and the list of partners it may share advertising data with is at support.google.com/admob/answer/9012903.
Written as plain addresses rather than links on purpose: this policy is stored inside the App so it can be read with no connection at all, and nothing on this screen needs one.
Advertising
The App shows a banner at the bottom of the conversion tools, and occasionally a full-screen ad after a conversion has finished and you have closed the result. Ads never appear while a conversion is running.
To serve them, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and processes:
- Your device's advertising identifier — a resettable ID your operating system provides. On Android this is the Advertising ID, which you can reset or delete under Settings > Privacy > Ads. On iOS it is the Identifier for Advertisers, which is readable only if you allow tracking, and which you can withdraw under Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
- Technical information about the device and the ad — device model, operating system version, coarse location derived from your IP address, and which ads were shown, tapped or measured.
It never receives your files, your file names, your conversion history or anything about what you converted. Those never leave the device, and the App has no code that could send them.
Consent and choice. In the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area and Switzerland, the App shows a consent form before any ad is requested, and you may refuse; ads are then shown without personalisation on either platform. On iOS, the App additionally presents Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, and declining it stops the advertising identifier from being used to track you; Android has no equivalent prompt and the App presents none there. Declining either one costs you nothing: every feature of the App remains free and fully available, and you will still see ads, just untargeted ones. You can change these answers later in your device settings.
Device Permissions
HexaConverter requests no storage, photo library, or location permissions. It works through your device's own system dialogs instead:
- Choosing files — you pick files in your device's document picker. The system grants the App access to only the files you chose, and to nothing else.
- Saving results — converted files are written through your device's own save dialog, to the single location you select. The App never writes to your photo library.
- Choosing pictures — you select them in the system photo picker, which hands back only what you chose. Selecting several at once is one trip through that picker, not access to the rest of your library.
- Using the camera — the Scanner photographs pages one after another, and the Images tool and Metadata Removal can each take a picture to work on. This is the one permission that differs by platform, because the two systems present the camera differently. On Android the App hands off to your device's camera app, which takes the photograph and returns it, so the App opens no camera and declares no camera permission. On iOS the camera is presented inside the App, so iOS asks for camera access the first time you use it, from any of those tools. On both, the photograph is written to the App's own storage on your device and goes nowhere else.
- Notifications — with your permission, the App posts a notification when a conversion finishes, and may vibrate.
- Network access — used only to fetch and measure ads. Through version 1.0.1 the App held no internet permission at all; adding advertising in 1.0.2 required one, and this policy was updated to say so rather than leave a claim standing that had stopped being true. Your files are still converted on the device and are still never uploaded — no code in the App sends a file anywhere.
Children's Privacy
HexaConverter is a general-purpose utility. It is not directed to children, is not listed in any store category for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
We do not ask for or receive any information that would tell us a user's age, so we cannot identify a child user. If you believe a child has used the App and you have concerns about the advertising identifier on that device, you can reset or disable it in the device settings, and you may contact us at the address below.
Data Security
Your files are never transmitted, so there is no server-side storage of them and no upload that could be intercepted — the risk of a data breach exposing your documents through HexaConverter is removed rather than managed. The only data that leaves the device is the advertising data described above, which is sent to Google over an encrypted connection and is handled under its policies.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with a new "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
