Student Bursaries

The History of Education Society UK is pleased to offer ten bursaries for PGR students in attendance at the 2024 Conference. These will each cover the full conference fee, and up to £250 to cover accommodation for the Friday and Saturday nights and travel costs to Liverpool from within the UK.

Applications will be open to those presenting either a full 20-minute paper or a shorter 10-minute PGR paper.  Priority will be given to those who have attended the conference before without a bursary, and then to those who have not previously attended.

Please note to apply for a bursary you must be a PGR member of HES UK. PGR membership is currently priced at £15 per year. More information about membership and how to join can be found here.

If you wish to apply for a bursary, then please email Mark Freeman at m.freeman@ucl.ac.uk, as soon as possible and no later than Monday 15 July 2024, with the following information: (1) your HES UK membership number; (2) details of any previous attendance at the HES conference. This is required, even if you have previously emailed to register your interest.

Bursaries are very limited in number. Decisions regarding the award of bursaries will be communicated by 5pm on Friday 19 June 2024 and will be final. Details of how bursary holders should register for the conference, and how to reclaim other expenses – all of which must be supported by receipts – will be circulated to successful applicants.
