Hertfordshire Equality Council (HEC) evolved after the then Commission for Racial Equality report for a need to establish an equality council in Hertfordshire and came into being in 2011.
We work in partnership across Hertfordshire with both the voluntary and statutory sector to promote equality, community cohesion and to eliminate discrimination.
We provide free advice and support around a range of diversity issues relating to Race, Faith, Disability, Sexual Orientation, Gender and Age. Our service is fully confidential. We are also specialists in community development, community outreach and community cohesion work across the County.
Hertfordshire Equality Council – A Pause on Our Journey
After 14 years of working with our community to champion equality and inclusion across Hertfordshire, the Hertfordshire Equality Council (HEC) is taking a pause.
Like many small charities, we’ve been deeply proud of the work we’ve done together – building understanding, giving a voice to those who need to be heard, and standing up for fairness. Sadly, with limited funding and resources, we are not currently in a position to continue our activities in the way we would wish.
This means HEC is going into hibernation for now – a “non-trading” period – while we take stock and explore what the future might hold.
We want to thank everyone who has supported us, volunteered time, partnered with us, or simply shared our vision over the years. Our achievements have only been possible because of the people who believe in equality and community spirit.
This isn’t goodbye – just a pause. We hope that, with renewed energy and support, HEC will be able to re-emerge in the future to continue this important work.
With gratitude and solidarity,
The HEC Team
