Why do we write?

It's a simple question, yet it has so many answers. You may write because it's a challenge. You may write so you can share your crazy ideas with others. You may write because of the satisfaction you feel after creating something. You may write because you find it therapeutic.

So many answers, yet there is only one that us writers all share: We write because we enjoy it.

That, perhaps, is some of the best motivation of all. Some of us may never get published, but in the end where your writing goes doesn't matter. You had fun while you put the words on the paper. You enjoyed yourself as you created fictitious worlds or explained the difference between two foods or described your day so you could remember it in the future. It does not matter what you wrote, as long as you had fun doing it.

Your piece may not win sparkly prizes or it may not impress everyone who reads it, but a quote from my favorite series reads, "Journey before destination."

And writing is one heck of a journey.

So have fun doing it! If you're not enjoying yourself, your writing will come out dull. But if you put your heart into your pieces, your writing might even write itself, and who knows? Maybe you will win a sparkly prize and impress anyone who reads it? Maybe you will decide to share those ideas with the world and get published?

It all comes down to this: your writing is yours, so you might as well enjoy it.
