About Me

Hi folx! I am Hermie Monterde. My pronouns are she/her or they/them [why is this important]. I am a PhD math student at UManitoba under the supervision of Dr. Steve Kirkland and Dr. Sarah Plosker.

My research interests are algebraic and spectral graph theory, matrix analysis and their applications to quantum information and computation. More specific areas include continuous-time quantum walks, graph spectra, graphs with well-structured eigenbases, and matrix decomposition problems.  You will find more about my research here.

I am also passionate about graduate student advocacy as well as Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA). In particular, I am a staunch advocate for the labor rights of graduate students (especially international students), increasing graduate student stipends, gender equity, and the inclusion of SOGIESC-diverse people in STEM. You can find more info about my activism and EDI work here.
