The 2022-2023 school year will be my 4th year as a media associate. I was a middle school language arts teacher back before I had children, and I still keep my teaching license current.
I grew up in NE Iowa in a small town named LaPorte City, and lived at home while I attended UNI. My first BA was in interior design. I married my high school sweetheart in 1997, and we moved to the DM area. In 2001, I received my second BA in English education from ISU. During the years that I stayed home with my three children, I taught yoga, scored written essays on standardized tests for Pearson, and was a Sunday School superintendent for Ankeny First UMC, where we’ve been members since 2006. I currently have a freelance editing business, and I edit a small magazine in Washington state.
This is my 3 year as a Digital Learning teacher in Ankeny. Prior I taught 2nd Grade for 7 years in Ames as well as Kindergarten, 1st Grade, Early Kindergarten and ECSE. Before that I taught in Newhall and Cedar Rapids.
I grew up in Williamsburg, Iowa on my dad's family farm. I attended ISU majoring in Early Childhood Education. In 2011, I completed my Master's degree through Viterbo University and I am currently working on obtaining my School Library Maste's from UNI.
Technology is my passion! I'm looking forward to sharing my passion with your child.
I have been a teacher and educator since 1998, and I have been with the Ankeny School District since 2005. I've been both a classroom teacher and a librarian/media teacher in multiple buildings throughout Ankeny including Southeast, Northwest, East, and Prairie Trail. I became the District-Level Digital Teacher Librarian in the fall of 2018. My landing spot is at the District Office, but I can be seen traveling around all 10 elementary buildings. I do a lot of behind the scenes type of work to build and maintain your library collections as well as support teachers and students. One of my favorite moments is to witness a beaming smile when I have suggested or purchased a book that someone's heart needed.
I have a husband, son, daughter, and a beagle. I love to hang with my family, take family bike rides, read, play soccer, watch movies, tinker in my garden, and so much more.
