Kiana is excited to once again be a part of the Here We Are: A BIPOC Cabaret series! She has previously been seen as ensemble in musicals like The Sound of Music and American Idiot at Street Lamp Community Theater. She thanks her friends, family, & community for showing their love to her & the BIPOC performers of Harford!
During 2020 I had the chance to sit and process a lot of what was happening in the world. Like many artists, I immediately went to create. In October 2020 I created a digital cabaret Read the Room featuring all BIPOC artists (mostly people from college). Years went by and I had moved to NYC in 2024. I always had it in the back of my mind that I want to do more to uplift BIPOC spaces in Harford County. After a bunch of planning, we got this off the ground. Thus began the Here We Are BIPOC Musical Theatre Cabaret Series (Est. 2025).
BIPOC artists in Harford County theatre have contributed so much to the community. Many of them are backbones of major theatres as not only actors, but also directors, stage managers, music directors, choreographers, people in admin, etc. I wanted to create a space where these local artists could do the pieces they want, whether it makes them feel joy, liberated, and more. Here We Are is a celebration of BIPOC theatre artists in the Harford County+ area. It is a visual representation that Black, Indigenous, & People of Color artists are in theatre spaces and aren’t going anywhere. I am so happy to use this cabaret as a chance to show a glimpse of how truly wonderful and talented these artists are.
This cabaret is dedicated to all of the BIPOC artists in small towns. Many ask where the BIPOC artists are.
And to that I answer, Here We Are.
