Dr. Trisha Atwood- Principal Investigator Utah State University
Dr. Atwood is an Assistant Professor in the Watershed Sciences Department and the Ecology Center, where she runs the Aquatic Ecology and Global Change Lab at USU. Undergraduate students, graduate students, and staff in the lab conduct research on a broad array of questions relating to the health, conservation and dynamics of freshwater and marine ecosystems across the globe. https://youtu.be/prizboZNWeU?si=c2nEERMdWsMOaUWN
Dr. Bonnie Waring - Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London
Dr. Warring is a climate change researcher. Her current research focuses on how the ecology of plant and soil microbial communities influences the carbon cycle and its feedback on climate change. Bonnie Waring received her PhD in Ecology, Evolution and Behavior from the University of Texas at Austin in 2013. Her research currently focuses on land-based negative emissions technologies .
Ryan Choi - Project Manager Utah State University
Ryan is the Project Manager for the Arctic Carbon Cycling Project in the Y-K Delta. Ryan received his B.A. Biology from Whitman College and M.S. and Ph.D. in Ecology from Utah State University. His dissertation research focused on how shifts in the seasonal timing of plants and migratory herbivores affect biogeochemical cycling and sub-arctic plant communities.
Jaron Adkins- Postdoctoral Researcher at Utah State University
Jaron is an ecosystem ecologist focused on the links between soil microbial communities and ecosystem functions. Jaron received his B.S. from Boise State University, where he researched how plant-soil interactions influence carbon sequestration under biofuel crops. Jaron completed his Ph.D. at Michigan State University, where he studied the effects of wildfire on soil carbon cycling and microbial community structure in California mixed-conifer forest. https://youtu.be/KZBfopV6CCg?si=teH3tV1t5GCAAKXq
Lindsey Miller - Master's Student at Utah State University
Lindsay is a master's student studying the role of birds in wetland ecosystem functioning, specifically focusing on nutrient cycling by waterfowl in Arctic and subarctic wetlands. She graduated from the College of William and Mary in 2021 with a degree in Biology and Environmental Science and Policy. Her love for marsh birds and wetland ecosystems was cemented when she served as a secretive marsh bird technician for LSU in the coastal marshes of southeast Louisiana.
Taylor Saunders - Master student at Utah State University
Taylor is a master's student interested in studying gas fluxes in ecosystems. Taylor has worked on a wide variety of ecological projects in Hawaii and Montana
Karen Beard- Principal Investigator Utah State University
Dr. Karen Beard’s research focuses on how changing landscapes influence species interactions and ecosystem functioning. Her research is often done in the context of the effects of non-native species and/or climate change. She is researching how non-native frogs influence the communities and ecosystems where they invade on the Hawaiian islands. The focus is on understanding their role in the food web and how this influences ecosystem processes, such as nutrient cycling rates and plant productivity. She has also conducted research in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta in western Alaska on how the timing of seasonal events, including bird migration, influences species interactions and ecosystem processes.
