Dee was the glue that held the Reba 4 together and she managed to do it whether they wanted to do it or not, and that's true power. We often talk about the Robfather. But Dee played the Robfather's all stars game better than Rob because she did it without getting hated for it. Dee reinvented Pagonging because she was the Pagonging. Reba 4 insulated her from danger and Katurah became her personal spy.

There would be four of us working together, and though we would arrive in Libya with the help and blessing of the Red Crescent, an aid organization, our safety briefings made plain the risks we faced. We were given tracking devices in case we went missing. We were told to make photocopies of our passports and put them in the soles of our shoes. An action plan was created, to be set in motion by people back in the U.S. if we went silent for 24 hours.

A freshly wrapped body lay on a gurney in the middle of the main room. In a side room, a worker ran water from a hose over another body. Behind a set of curtains was a wall of refrigerated chambers that could hold perhaps two dozen corpses. It was impossibly hot and completely quiet.

The prospect of long-term imprisonment began to sink in. Given the dysfunction in Libya, we could become trophy captives, stuck here for months or even years. Pierre and I discussed what that sort of future might hold. Then we heard a faint tapping on the other side of the wall. We tapped back. We took the crude exchange to be evidence that Ian, Mea, or both were being held close by. Our spirits lifted slightly.

Holding Together is about the promise of rights as a source of American identity, the struggle to realize rights by countless Americans to whom the promise has been denied or not fulfilled, the hijacking of rights by politicians who seek power by dividing and polarizing, and the way forward in which rights can bring Americans together instead of tearing them apart.

And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning. [3 Nephi 11:11]

In situations where we're experiencing an inability to get results, the Holy Spirit not only wants to direct our prayers precisely, causing them to light upon correctly, but He also wants to take hold of the situation together with us, adding His strength to ours. "'Not by [your] might not by [your] power, but by My Spirit,' says the Lord of hosts" (Zech. 4:6) will the mountain be moved.

Although the context of 2 Corinthians 12:9 is not prayer, praying in the Spirit is perhaps the greatest example of when His strength is made complete in our weaknesses. When we realize our weaknesses, our inability to produce results, it causes us to look to Him for help. If we allow Him to pray through us, He will take hold together with us. We just have to believe that when the Holy Spirit takes hold, something is going to move!

Please notice that both the word "helps" and its literal definition "takes hold together with against" implies not that He is doing it for us, but with us. In other words, this isn't something the Holy Spirit is simply doing in us, with or without our participation. No, we involve Him by praying in the Spirit, which is actually allowing Him to pray through us.

No change in her condition occurred, and I realized we were going to have to obtain this healing through perseverance and laying hold by faith (see 1 Tim. 6:12). That, by the way, is the way most answers to prayer come---not as instant miracles, but through fighting the fight of faith and patience.

After a couple of weeks of this, one afternoon the Lord showed me a picture as I was praying in the Spirit. I saw myself holding this cyst in my hand squeezing the life out of it. I did not yet know that the literal meaning of "helps" in Romans 8 was "taking hold of together with against," but the Holy Spirit was teaching me a wonderful truth.

I knew, of course, that ! couldn't really get my hands on the cyst, but He was showing me that as I allowed Him to pray through me, HE was "lighting on" and "taking hold with me against" the thing. Obviously, it was His power making the difference.

It sort of reminds me of the mouse and elephant who were best friends. They hung out together all the time, the mouse riding on the elephant's back. One day they crossed a wooden bridge, causing it to bow, creak and sway under their combined weight. After they were across, the mouse, impressed over their ability to make such an impact, said to the elephant, "We sure shook up that bridge, didn't we?"

We sat together, in a circle, and calmed ourselves so we could listen. Those not directly involved in the conflict sat in the circle and listened supportively, and the two used skills to hear each other and try to understand.

By openly and precisely naming dynamics of power, while caring about one another, they got to undermine a divide and conquer strategy of our current social order: the one that teaches poor white kids to blame kids of colour instead of banding together to see the discrete pressures in a system affecting them both. By understanding together the specific kinds of erasure and silencing Black women and girls face, the group becomes stronger and more able to perceive harm and hence, protect against it.

We need to hold one another in these frightening times. We need to know how to roll with conflict and hold one another in safety, in this individualist culture, so we can take the risks that we are called upon to take.

For the swatch above I cast on holding together 4 strands of coral and worked as follows:

6 rows holding 4 strands coral

6 rows holding 3 strands coral and 1 strand poison

6 rows holding 2 strands coral and 2 strands poison

6 rows holding 1 strand coral and 3 strands poison

6 rows holding 4 strands of poison

Bind off.

This should give you a starting point, you may need to go up or down a size or 2, depending on your personal gauge, and the gauge at which you achieve a fabric you like for your project. Holding 4 strands together for the pink-to-purple swatch above I used a US 10.5/6.5mm needle. You may want a slightly denser/tighter fabric for a hat, but something a little looser for a blanket.

PInk Pearl is holding its annual Together 5K Walk or Run, to be done any time between September 10 and 17 in any neighbourhood, and following that up with the return of their Family Support Day in NOTL next Saturday.

Her family banded together to show their support, organizing a benefit for Elise and other young female cancer patients. The benefit turned into an annual event, and after seven years they took the step of organizing and formalizing Pink Pearl Canada as a foundation.

Just made this recipe tonight after visiting the post. It was absolutely delicious. After straining and putting in a towel. I put the towel back in the strainer over the sink and twisted while I pushed down. This got most all the water out. Mine ended up very firm and I could hold my pizza. GREAT RECIPE.

This recipe is perfect. Super simple to make. I followed the recipe exactly as written. I made the gingerbread house pieces a few days before so they were dry and hard. I built the houses the night before we decorated them. If you make a small house, you could probably put it together and decorate it on the same day. The frosting dried hard and sturdy. I used tin cans from the pantry to hold the sides in place overnight. I will save this recipe to use from now on.

What we should want and what should satisfy us are constructs that have long relied on a common fantasy: possession. Instead of holding it together, as we must do now, our sense of reality has been constructed around getting it and having it.

I have been thinking about other times in my life when I have had to hold it together. At two, I was adopted from Korea by white parents. Sometime in elementary school, I realized that I was not white like them. After college, I returned to Korea and met my wife. We had children. She got cancer. Now I am raising our children alone.

After the novel sold, my wife became pregnant, gave birth to our second child, and was diagnosed with widespread cancer. I finished the novel beside her hospital beds, while she slept off chemo treatments. We were together, at least, for a little longer. Each day, we adjusted to a new new reality, with less and less hope of satisfaction.

My novel, Disappear Doppelgnger Disappear, came out two days before a derecho devastated the town in which I live, causing billions of dollars of damage and taking out power for hundreds of thousands. As I write this, it has been nine days without air conditioning, without cooking, without a refrigerator, without WiFi, in the middle of a pandemic summer. We are holding it together, eating snacks for meals and charging our devices from the car.

Perhaps it is possible to escape our dependence on satisfaction but not our dependence on the hope of satisfaction. The problem with grief is precisely how difficult it is to know what to hope for when you know that what will satisfy you (bringing your beloved back to life) is impossible. There are only a few ways out of this paradigm that I can think of, a few ways of holding together a sense of reality that is a sense of constant change. Art, as Phillips suggests, is one. The experience of reading a really good book, like the experience of joy or love, is often the experience both of hoping that the experience will never end and of relishing that it must.

So how do you keep it together when your family is falling apart? How do you keep yourself mentally healthy and strong? From this article, I hope you gain the strength and confidence you need to take care of yourself, even when your world is falling apart. ff782bc1db
