Who am I?
Hello! My name is Henry Pullen, and I am from Parker, Colorado. In years past, I have attended multiple institutions to further my education in Geography and Environmental Science. I have spent two years at Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, Colorado gaining general education credits. In May of 2024, I will be graduating from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs with a bachelor's degree in Geography and Environmental Science. Along with this accomplishment, I will also be earning a certificate in GIS (Geographical Information Systems). I hope to continue to use my knowledge in the workplace.
Geography and Environmental Science, as well as other natural sciences have and always will be my passion. This being said, I feel I do well in one specific area. In particular, I excel in using Geographic Information Systems and being able to examine/interpret spatial data to make visual representations of problems, solutions, and important concepts. The world of GIS is always changing, especially the features in the programs that are used. Learning how to cope with the new possibilities and capabilities of programs is something I am very much interested in. In the past, most of my work has been ESRI’s ArcGIS program. Another area in which I am knowledgeable in is remote sensing work. While technically part of “GIS”, it's still a bit different. The analysis of remotely sensed data and images is what a large part of my work was in. Watching environmental and urban changes over time and applying that to real world problems and questions is something I am passionate about. Most data used in my studies was from the Landsat10 satellite. The data analysis and visual products were made using the Terrset program. Aside from the technical part of this, I am highly knowledgeable in physical geography, as well as natural and atmospheric processes/phenomenon's. I love to use my knowledge of these and apply it to the technical side of geography.
I have not yet had a job in this field. As someone who is graduating soon, I have not had time to make the commitment to a long term, degree specific career. That being said I am still very much interested in doing so. Ideally, I would like to use my knowledge for an institution that works in areas like conservation, parks, wildlife, forest management, outdoor recreation, ect. I feel as if these are very important topics, especially living in a state with such expansive wilderness and opportunities for outdoor activity and anthropogenic effects on the environment. I would also be open to sharing my knowledge via education. Geography and Environmental Science is an always-changing field, and my hope is to contribute to making the world a better place by sharing and applying what I know about it.
