The Jazz Studies Program provides students with a comprehensive jazz education. Particular emphasis is given to jazz styles, genres, listening, improvisation, expression, and interaction. Traditionally the instrumentation of a jazz band includes saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and rhythm section (piano, bass, guitar, and drums). If there are enough students interested in this course of study we will provide one big band ensemble and one Jazz Combo. The jazz combo will provide opportunities or those students interested in learning more about the jazz idiom and improvisational skills. The Jazz Band will perform several times throughout the year, including performances at school, community, district and state events.
