Here's a step-by-step guide to help you sync your tree between FTM and Ancestry:

Take these actions to get Family Tree Maker (FTM) and Ancestry to sync:

Step 1

Have your family tree maker ready.

⦁ Open Family Tree Maker: Start your computer FTM application.

⦁ Look for any updates: To ensure you have the most recent version select Help  Check for Updates. Install any updates that are available then restart FTM.

Step 2 

Connect Ancestry to Your Tree

1. Select the family tree you wish to sync by opening Your Tree in FTM.

2. Go to File  Connect to Ancestry and input your Ancestry account information to log in if you haven't already.

3. Connect Your Tree:

⦁ In the top right corner click the Ancestry symbol.

⦁ Click on Link to Ancestry and Upload. You have the option to link your tree if it is already on Ancestry.

⦁ To link your tree to your Ancestry account simply follow the instructions. You might have to choose between linking to an existing tree on Ancestry or uploading a new one.

Step 3 

Modify the Sync Configuration

1. Select Sync Preferences: After linking the tree you can modify the synchronization process:

⦁ Automatic Sync: Updates are automatically synchronized.

⦁ Manual Sync: The sync must be started manually.

2. Verify your privacy settings: Verify your tree's privacy settings on Ancestry one more time. You have the option to make your tree private or public.

Step 4 

Sync Your Tree

⦁ Start Syncing: To get started click the Sync button. The size of your tree and the speed of your internet connection will determine how long the first sync takes so be patient.

⦁ Examine the Sync Status: Verify that all changes are applied appropriately and look for any sync issues.

Step 5 

Handle Sync Issues

There may occasionally be conflicts between FTM and Ancestry due to modifications made to your tree. Review the disputes and choose how to settle them if this occurs.
