Pantonic Steel Orchestra was established in Hackney in 1988 by Ezekiel “Biggs” Yearwood and Raymond Joseph, with a vision to use steel pan music to inspire young people and bring the community together.

For almost 40 years, Pantonic has continued to celebrate Caribbean heritage, develop musicians and create opportunities through music, education and performance.

Today, Pantonic Steel Orchestra continues to grow as a multi-generational community organisation in Hackney.

We provide opportunities for young people and adults through steel pan education, rehearsals, performances and cultural activities, while preserving Caribbean heritage and bringing communities together through music.

Our recent achievements include our return to Notting Hill Carnival in 2024 after a 20-year break, achieving 2nd place for Best Steel Band on the Road, followed by another 2nd place achievement in 2025. We have continued our community impact through Windrush celebrations, educational activities and local projects, with plans to participate again in Notting Hill Carnival 2026.

With growing demand for our work, we now need a permanent Hackney-based panyard to support our continued growth and secure our future.
