From Waveform to Emotion...

Distance de Fée by Toru Takemitsu, performed by Yolanda Tapia (piano) and Roan Ma (violin), is a delicate and atmospheric work that I had the privilege of recording, mixing, and mastering as my final project for DMU313. Captured in room EJB130 at UofT Faculty of Music using a carefully designed six-microphone setup, the production focused on preserving spatial realism, tone color, and emotional subtlety—highlighting the piece’s ethereal textures and expressive dialogue between instruments. The post-production process involved detailed editing, phase alignment, EQ sculpting, and reverberation design to bring the performance to life.

Improvisation in A-Flat is a piano work performed by sound designer and composer Shawn Boulet, recorded by Echo and students from the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto. The piece captures a dynamic and spatially rich improvisation through a multi-microphone setup and detailed post-production work. Mixed and mastered by me, the final track blends close-mic clarity with ambient warmth, evoking the sensation of sound echoing through an open valley.
