Our first task was to develop a brand-new tartan, which was officially registered in the Scottish Register of Tartans under no. 13509 on 17 May 2022. It was designed and created in May the previous year to celebrate 200 years of Hellenic Independence and the creation of Greece we know today.
The Hellenic Tartan is meant to advance public interest in Hellenic culture and heritage and support the development of local Hellenic communities. The design is intended to represent the integration of the Hellenes from Greece and Cyprus with their local communities in Scotland and the shared love of their respective heritages. The colours are intended to reflect key elements of the history and culture of the three countries:
blue symbolises the sea and sky, truth and justice;
white is for freedom and the foam of the sea;
yellow and green symbolise the copper of Cyprus and the desire for peace, while
red is intended to be a reminder of the blood that has been shed by all three nations throughout their histories.
The first products engraved or woven with this tartan, are expected to become available at the end of November 2022. All necessary information will be published on this page.
