The Construction of a Guitar Made from Wood and Epoxy Resin

Building a guitar from wood and epoxy resin is a complex process that requires time, care, and, above all, patience.

What has become my passion today started with a simple DIY kit from an online retailer. Back then, I mistakenly believed that sufficient effort would turn it into a high-quality instrument. However, various flaws, particularly a warped neck, ultimately rendered the guitar in the SG style nothing more than a decorative piece.

This setback became the foundation for a new idea: creating a guitar from epoxy resin combined with wood. To bring this vision to life, I had to expand my already well-equipped workshop. In the beginning, new tools and materials arrived almost daily, delivered by shipping and courier services. Additionally, I developed custom tools and jigs that significantly simplified the production process.

A Time-Intensive Craft

Constructing a guitar, from the initial planning stages to the final fine-tuning, involves countless hours of labor. While crafting an identical model can save time, as plans, templates, and other materials already exist, the effort remains substantial. Depending on the type and design of the guitar, one or more molds and between five and ten templates often need to be created.

Materials and Sound

Determining how much the chosen wood influences the sound of an electric guitar is difficult—especially in combination with epoxy resin. While there are many expert opinions on this topic, only a few have experience with guitars made from wood types like oak or spruce, let alone combined with epoxy resin.

One characteristic of the resin, however, is unmistakable: it significantly enhances the guitar's sustain.

From my perspective, though, the selected hardware plays an even more decisive role in the instrument's sound. Ultimately, it’s the combination of shape, material, and equipment that defines the final tonal experience.

How Does a Finished Guitar Sound?

To me, the finished instruments meet my highest standards both sonically and visually. Each guitar is a unique piece crafted with passion and precision—and they look absolutely stunning.
