Hekarl Uzir

Hi, I am Hekarl Uzir, a lecturer and a researcher at the School of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia (Malaysia's APEX University). I am specialising in biocatalysis and biotransformation looking at the complex formation of fine chemicals with living organisms (specifically yeasts species) as biocatalysts.

This webpage provides you information regarding courses taught and research carried out by my group. Hopefully, it will give you some insights into choosing a place of study into becoming a professional chemical engineer or a place to further your postgraduate education in the field of Biochemical Engineering.

Again, welcome to my "space" and enjoy your tour....

**The word "pensyarah" on the plate means "lecturer" by the way.

NEW Announcement (august 2018)

I am currently looking for a candidate either MSc. or PhD. to undertake a research work into the synthesis of a chiral precursor of a drug known as Tapentadol, 3-[(1R,2R)-3-dimethylamino-1-ethyl-2-methylpropyl] phenol. This challenging pursuit requires candidates who are good in chemistry and molecular biology and able to work independently. It is a multi-disciplinary project that integrates organic chemistry with molecular biology and biochemical engineering, which combines experts from the School of Biological Sciences, Professor Nazalan Najimuddin and Professor Dato' Hasnah Osman from the School of Chemical Sciences.

To those interested, please drop me a line at chhekarl@usm.my or call at the direct number at 04-5996464.

Thank you.
