I have not decided on a specific career, but am interested in the Engineering field of study. I was prompted to join this field of study by being a member of “Destination Imagination” as a child. Through this, we worked on designing our own technology for performances and for quick challenges, which I discovered I enjoyed. I found it interesting to build technology with small parts that weren’t useful alone. The most interesting thing to me was designing a hydraulic arm with my teammates, which I found interesting. After realizing my interest, I spoke to my friend Colin Taylor, and we both decided we wanted to pursue careers as engineers.
In school, I have worked hard to take the right classes to prepare myself to be a successful engineer. So far, I have taken AP Seminar, AP Calculus, and AP Physics to prepare for my career choice. These classes will help me prepare for my Engineering education, and will provide skills for my career. I am taking the Engineering program at the James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center to assist in my dream. Thus far, I have learned advanced mathematics, physics, and professional writing through my classes in school, and I will be able to practice hands-on for the next 2 years in the Engineering program.
Outside of the classroom environment, I have experienced many formative extracurriculars, jobs, and experiences. I have participated in Cross Country during my freshman year and Student Government from my Sophomore year to present day. Cross Country taught me dedication, showing up to practice every school day and running while not at school. Student Government taught me about how to work in a governmental system, working as the current elected treasurer. Working as the treasurer has shown me how to manage funds and collaborate with others, helping with future management skills. Outside of school, I volunteer at “Building Bridges”, helping tutor younger kids and take care of them after school. This experience has helped teach me how to be patient and help others, help younger kids, and work as a leader with adults. I am currently employed in multiple jobs, as a pizza maker at St. James Deli and as a lifeguard at my neighborhood pool. Working as a pizza maker has taught me coordination, professionalism, good work habits, and efficiency. My job as a lifeguard has taught me how to perform medical exercises, stay attentive, and keep a schedule.
Upon graduating high school, I plan to attend a 4 year college to extend my education as either a Physics or Engineering major. Attending college will help expand my qualifications, allowing me to work jobs I may not have been able to work otherwise, possibly making more money or finding something that fits me better. Attending college will also give me more information to hone in on exactly what I want to do with my future, allowing me to know more about different paths of Engineering or other related jobs. Although I plan to attend college, I am unsure about the specifics of the place I would like to go to college, and I am not sure what I want to do after college. A strong possibility for after college is to attend another school to get a master's, which will further my qualifications even more and allow me to be more educated. My main goal is to gain an education that will allow me to find and have my ideal career, whatever that career may be.
Once I achieve my career goal, I want to have an effect on the community I live in to benefit others’ lives. Ideally, I would find a career that allows me to help others through my career, but I could also volunteer to help others in need outside of my career, as I find fulfillment and enjoyment in helping others. I could benefit society in which I live by helping with important products or companies, aiding the ease of life and technology advancement. By attaining my dream, I hope to display that you can be both an engineer and someone who participates heavily in public service, not letting either role bring down the other. Through this, I want to be a role model that others may be able to look up to. I look to have a positive impact on the world, playing my part in making the world a better and more supportive society. Through this, I will make a difference in the world, improving the people around me’s lives and play a part in improving the greater world.
