The amount of lengthening is always decided by your surgeon according to your treatment plan. Ideally the distraction should be 0.75 MM per day to 1MM per day, if you are distracting the bone too much in a day it will create a tension around the soft tissue structures. The nerves, fascia, muscle, arteries also get stretch when we do bone distraction and in too much of distraction these might go into degeneration. doing it one mm in a day it will give them time to heal but if you do lengthening too fast the degeneration process also become faster. The chances of soft tissue structure damage increase with the amount of lengthening. When we are proceeding with the lengthening we have go through repitid xray to check the callus formation or
